When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford to appear on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted "Harrison Ford guy," and was auditioning for people similar to Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they had to at least take it to Ford first, thinking that he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had brought the project, generating interest from other notable actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was thrilled anyway.. I watched the first two episodes and found them compelling.
I also respect the way it’s presented – he’s not doing something that other therapists are supposed to be doing, and that’s quite clear
Part of the reason is that I found that there is something realistically based about a therapist who needs therapy and wants to work his way through to his patients to unexpectedly break through their problems. It hasn’t gotten into the stupid situations of other series like Loot, but it’s still early in the series and I’ll continue to watch it.
the show is not for everyone
That said, I enjoy the depth of the characters who don’t look like caricatures; these are the people I want to meet.
